Clean = Happy!

Back in January I started working on a project to recover my dining room chairs. Thanks to my daughter, she convinced me that we should finish recovering all of them, instead of having half of them finished. What an idea!

We all feel better sitting on our new chairs. Such little things bring big smiles to my children's faces.

Here's what I started with. 10 years of children wiping off their syrupy hands on the fabric.

I am not ashamed.... well, sort of.

Here's all I had to do. It only takes about 20 minutes per chair.

BTW ~ I totally made all of this up so if you have any expertise in this area, feel free to cringe.

Unscrew the screws holding the cushion to the chair frame

Using a utility knife (preferably sharp), slice along the side of each staple.
Don't try to remove each staple. I started out that way and soon realized it would take me a week per chair at that rate. Slicing works nicely!

Pull back the fabric as you slice.
Use the old piece of fabric as a pattern for the new.
Can I tell you how painful it was to even let that sickening fabric touch my new stuff.

Using a staple gun, put a few staples on opposite sides to tighten.
Next is the "folding the corners" tutorial:

Staple along the way. Don't be afraid to use a lot of staples!

With lots of children ~ we need PLASTIC!
I did the same thing all over again to cover the chairs with thick plastic.
Use the fabric as the pattern again.
Using the staple gun, do it all over again.
Even Bo jumped in and did her own. It's THAT easy!!!

Home improvement makes us all feel good. It's great to do things with my own hands.

Eight chairs: DONE!

Have a great weekend!
